Time seems to fly doesn’t it? I mean, everybody says
that, but do they really take the time to actually think about just
how fast every second of every day just slips from your fingers with
each passing moment? I don’t mean to sound deep these days, but
that’s just how I’ve been feeling lately. With Monster dead and
gone, not to mention Cain and Dynatech, the past two months have
given me way too much time to think. I keep finding myself running in
circles asking if this is it for me and if I reached the high point
of my life? Is it all downhill from here? Am I going to spend the
rest of my life playing den mother to Ani and Wraith? Well, as it
turns out, I guess there are a few surprises left for me after all.
Over the last few months, Ani and Wraith have been
searching the entire valley looking for where Monster’s brother is
“sleeping.” I was freaked out by the fact that that creep had a
brother as well, but Wraith and Ani made it clear that Monster was
planning on killing him. My response was something along the lines
of, “What? So that makes him a good-guy?” Good lord, I guess it
doesn’t matter if they’re human or not, men are just thick
sometimes. No matter what those two claim, it doesn’t convince me
that this new Primeran is going to be all sunshine and rainbows when
he wakes up from some hundred year nap.
Anyway, I suppose I’m getting off topic. Earlier
today, Ani went out searching as usual, but came back with a
surprise. Turns out that while Ani was searching for some sign of
Monster’s brother, he came across a young girl that had been
reported missing for the last twelve hours. I was concerned when I
first heard the cops in town talking about it over their radios. I
should probably explain. I had tapped into the Kingston Heights
police force’s radio frequency after Dynatech and Cain were
finished off, just so we would know if any more of those damn Grim
creatures started to come snooping around, or worse, if what Dornan
told us would happen to the infected was starting. Ugh, I’m doing
it again. Like I said, Ani came across this young girl who had gotten
lost and decided to bring her back here. Oddly enough, she wasn’t
afraid of Ani at all. Ani said that she was excited to meet him and
that she is under the impression that he some kind of guardian of the
forest. Adorable.
The kid’s name is Meryle, and she says she’s eight
years old. Meryle told me and Ani that she lives in town with a
foster family. I asked her why she wasn’t afraid of Ani and she
replied by saying, “Because I always knew magic and monsters were
real. Why should I be scared?” It seems that our new little friend
is quite the fairy tale geek. It just seems funny to me because most
kids spend their childhood believing in such things only to learn the
truth when they get older, but here is one kid who now knows the real
truth and she’ll never have to go through that whole “growing out
of it” stage. I guess I just can’t help but wonder what her life
is going to be like now.
Ani has been playing with her while we’ve been waiting
to get a call back from her foster family. I have to say, Ani gets
along great with her, maybe because he’s so innocent himself. From
what I’ve seen, Primerans don’t have the “tools” for
procreation, so I have no idea how that works for them. But it’s
still nice to note that I think he’d be a great dad is he ever had
kids…pups? Ugh, over thinking again. I hadn’t meant to ruin their
fun but I was starting to get curious and asked Meryle if she knew
her birth parents. She explained that she didn’t know her mom and
that she normally lives with her dad. I asked her why she didn’t
live with him now and she hesitantly responded that he was working
out of town. I asked her what her father did for work, and her answer
made me want to cry for the first time since Ani and I met.
“…Dynatech, he works for Dynatech.” Ani and I could only look
at each other as our hearts sank into our stomachs, dreading the
reality this sweet little girl may face all too soon.
