Episode 7: Knee Deep In The Dead - Part 5

Memory File: 0018
Time: 6:15 P.M.

         So I guess this newcomer is the red dragon that Meryle spoke of earlier. Despite bathing the ground in fire, it has little to no effect on Ghast. Animal is still dangling like a worm on a hook and I don't even know if this friend of Meryle's can even be trusted. Kate seems to be angry by his appearance, but there is something that resembles relief in her eyes. The weapon is almost ready, but even so, how in the hell am I suppose to get a clean shot with both Animal and the dragon in the way?

<If I might interrupt, Sir. It would be best to eliminate the primary threat regardless of the casualties that may occur. These creatures pose a threat to both civilians and yourself based on the data acquired from analysis. Such entities have a high percentile chance to cause damage to both the surrounding area and to the lives of those living in the valley. It is my recommendation that you eradicate all threats, both real and potential, to the human population of this location.>

That may be true, but you listen to me now... I will NEVER sacrifice the lives of others for the greater good. Do you understand me? Unless you have an idea where I can protect everyone in harms way you don't say a word. Got it?

<Yes, Sir. Your intention was received well enough. I will no longer suggest outcomes that involve the sacrifice of additional lives. But if I may inquire for reference, why are you so willing to spare the lives of such creatures?>

Because to you don't need a reason to help others. Remember that or don't ever speak to me again...

<95%, Sir.>

Good. Hmm, Looks like they're getting chatty again. If the dragon can keep Ghast busy talking just a bit more than I'll be ready to finish this. I'll keep recording as I inform Kate of my plan.

I offered you a chance to bear witness to true Primeran justice, brother. But here you stand in defiance of me... Tell me, what reason could embolden you so as to aid this... traitor.

To be honest, I care little for the mutt. But as fate would have it, he's the only one who has a reasonable chance of killing you. So I suppose I'll be needing him around just long enough to send you whimpering back to your master.

Oh? You mean to use him to accomplish your own ambitions. How like him you are then, using others to satisfy your own needs along the path towards some selfish and delusional goal.

Don't define me, rat... I, nor anyone else, would be swayed by the words of a bastard child sired in a moment of weakness with some harlot tramp of a mother-

          Fast! Incredibly fast! Ghast cut off the dragon's words and is now perched atop his shoulders, one hand gripping the dragon's throat, strangling his words, the other, raised high overhead and glowing with that golden light!

Ssssh, There there. I'm not going to kill you, yet. But your words do strike what little remains of my heart, brother. So, before you die, I would have you feel my pain. The power of lord Mammon is to possess all in one's reach. But it can also be used to cast aside what I choose as well. So, I bequeath unto you my memories. Let this pain be but a small note of music for the symphony of torture that is to come...

         Ghast's hand falls upon the dragon's head, his claws piece his skull and the golden light pours into the dragon's frame. Golden light radiates from the dragon's eyes and even his veins illuminate with the same eerie glow. The dragon howls in pain and I can hear Meryle screaming Monster's name.

<100%, Sir.>

          About damn time! I charge towards Ghast as fast as I can leaping into him with enough force to send the creature barreling through the graveyard towards an area that leaves me the perfect opportunity to use this new weapon.

Little bug, do you know what you have asked of me? You have begged for death by my golden hands.

You first...
         The protective armor on my chest whirls and burns with a crimson light. Ghast leaps towards me as weapon fires. The light emitted is a brilliant white, the air itself bursts into plumes of blue flames, and everything the light touches turns black and crumbles instantly. The sound is deafening as everything I see before it washed out into pure irridescent light. Ghast himself turns into nothing more than a silhouette that vanishes from my view in an instance. Soon, the sound subsides, color returns to my world, and all that lies before me is a trail of scorched earth that travels beyond the horizon. The transformation is instantly undone as I turn to see Kate holding an injured Meryle. The dragon approaches as well with Animal slumped over his back. Kate hands Meryle to me, she seems ill. There is a mark on her leg where one of those undead creatures grabbed her, it looks infected.

Here, you're the one that wants to protect her right? Looks like you have the skill set for just that eh, Blue?

Blue?...

I figure it suits your... Condition. Not creative, I know. But neither are theirs.

If you have time to make light of our situation, human, than you can look and see that we are far from danger.

        The dragon turns our attention to the destruction the blast created, and there, above the destruction, a swirling mass of green smoke, slowly churning and taking shape, a familiar and horrifying shape.

It'll take time for him to regenerate, but not long enough, we need shelter to rest.

You got to be kidding me... Fine, let's head back to the truck and haul ass to my place.

Agreed... At least now I know what we are dealing with, and it will be a miracle if we see the sunrise...
